Blog 12-Health And Safety

When deciding on locations for shooting we took into consideration health and safety and any problems which may arise when shooting our video: The weather: one of our locations is a forest however we have realised the weather may be a hazard.

For example:

-It may become slippy if it rains becoming dangerous to us and camera equipment.

-Mud; the forest will become muddy after heavy rain which will interrupt some scenes we are shooting when the singer will have to lie of the ground. It also may become slippy which may become a danger to filming crew, actors and equipment

-Snow; this is a big problem and may interrupt with filming for a while as it will be dangerous to travel to location during these conditions.

Other problems which may arise are:

-Lighting; we have to film at appropriate times during the day so we don't waste time and filming on locations when its too dark.

-When moving the camera and the tripod its important to make sure we dismantle them correctly and do not attempt to carry the tripod with the camera on it otherwise we may damage or break equipment.

-Access; it is important that locations are easy to access to ensure that no one is put in danger when trying to enter/leave a location.

-Transport; We have understood that the persons car we are using may break down and will have to prepare other transport methods in case, we also realise that it is important that the driver is responsible to ensure no accidents occur when travelling to locations.

-Appropriate footwear; when moving between locations (especially within the Forrest) it is important that each member has appropriate footwear to avoid falls and causing potential damage to themselves and others.

Risk Assessment Forms:

When booking camera equipment we are required to fill out a risk assessment form; this is were we have to identify any hazards we feel could occur during filming or at the location.

Risks that we would identify were the:

Forrest; could be hazardous if wet and slippery.

Noise; some locations such as around college could become noisy and also we had to be aware that we might disturb lessons if filming in corridors.

Closed space: In some areas of the house we were using was tight spaces which meant setting up a tripod and moving around could be a potential hazard.

We identify these risks and then when filming at the specific areas do everything in our power to prevent damage or injury occurring so that filming can run as smoothly as possible.
