Blog 20- Evaluation and Feedback of the Video

This blog contains the evaluation of my video, the camera work involved, feedback and other comments on the overall project.

I have decided to produce some of the evaluation in PowerPoint form as it will be more effective in making comparisons.

Here is the link to my evaluation of the overall project:

Link to how my video compares to my storyboard:

Feedback and what I have learnt from it:

I will use FaceBook for feedback, conduct interviews with several people and use questionnaires to gain an overal understanding on what others think of the production and use this to reflect on the project and explain what I would do differently now.

My feedback via Facebook/ YouTube was mainly peoples overall opinion of my video; there were no set questions they had to answer. So this method of feedback was successful in allowing me to draw conclusions on any major problems with the video and what people thought was good etc.

Questionnaires via Email:

This method of feedback I felt was suitable as it allowed people to fill the questionnaire out at anytime as they could email it back to me rather then paper questionnaire; I feel this method is suitable for Lady Gaga as she is constantly trying new things and dvelops like technology does.

I used Qualitative questions to gain in depth information ad I feel Quantitative questions don't get the persons view but just a simple yes or no answers; there's no room for creativity.

I used this method to gain an understanding on whether my video was seen to suite its genre, Lady gaga's style and if it was on t.v would it be watched.

Video interviews via Skype and face to face:

These interviews were interesting as the other two methods had been conducted without me being there so to actually have a conversation about the music video was interesting. I had a set list of qualitative questions because that would make the answers more easy to compare and draw conclusions from.

I did two face to face filmed interviews and I did two via skype this is because some people were unavailable to meet up but wished to participate in the interviews. I uploaded the interviews to YouTube and posted the links below :

Blog 19- Finished Video

I have uploaded our final video to YouTube and the link is below:

Blog 18- Creative Camera Use And Editing.

I really like the technique we used here during filming; it looks like the actor is floating in the air. When editing the light that came under the curtain we added a blue tint to the light and made them brighter. This made them appear as spotlights which I felt made it really suited to our artist.

We used a tracking shot to look like the person was being followed we then edited the shot and within our video faded from colour to grey scale and then back to colour. I really liked this effect as it made it look abstract and also fitted into our story well and highlights the characters loneliness.

We achieved this shot by using a zoom into a extreme close up; to highlight the lip's and the brush strokes. i really like this use of camera as I felt it tied in with the lyrics of leaving, I also think it is something that Lady Gaga would use as it looks very artistic which is a style that is a regular occurrence in her videos.

We achieved this shot by placing the camera on floor level, and positioning the actress lying horizontal to the camera. I really like how its on the same level as her face and feel it was a good shot within our video as it added a difference to the sequence of shots leading up to it.

Blog 16- Advert

I am also creating an advert for my artist using photo shop, but before I create mine I will analyse two adverts of artists from the same genre, then draw some flat plans before creating my final design.

Analysis 1:

From looking at this advert the genre automatically sticks out as POP due to the bright colours and text, the advert I think is aimed at females in particular however the way the artist is dressed may also attract a male audience.

Theme:

It is clear that the advert follows the same theme as the CD cover, the backgrounds are identical; both include the picket fence and the sky with the clouds. The only difference is with the positioning of the artist; it includes her standing by a paddling pool, she is the centre of the advertisement and your eyes are immediately drawn to the image; at a glance it is easy to tell that it's Katy perry.

Colours:

The colours all match and don't conflict each other, the CD cover includes similar colours to the advert; pink top, purple/blue shorts. these colours are stereotypically feminine colours which contradicts the title of the album "One Of the Boys" I feel this is a good idea as audience will find it entertaining as the advert is the complete opposite of masculinity.

Text:

The artists name is the largest text on the page; this makes it easy for audience to read, the text is bold and coloured pink, the language used also makes the artist sound amazing as it uses words such as "smash hit" "The album" which is all language which makes people feel they need/want to purchase this product. However I do feel the let down for the advert is the colouring of the album title; "one of the boys" it is a baby blue colour and is places over a cloud; I find it doesn't stand out and is difficult to read this means the advert is relying on audiences to remember the image of the CD rather then the name which i feel lets it down.

Imagery:

The imagery is well laid out; it is a long shot of Katy Perry stood upright; the image takes up the left half of the advert and draws you attention; she is wearing bright coloured clothing to make her stand out from the background. the image doesn't look provocative like some adverts so it is aimed at a large sample of people and doesn't just apply to one group within society.

Analysis 2:

From looking at the cover I would think the genre is soul music however Simon Webb is part of the POP genre so i feel the cover doesn't express a set genre. I also wouldn't know which gender it is aimed at making me think that it is aimed at a wider audience as though its trying to discover what target group will be attracted to this sound and artist.

Theme:

The cover has quiet a religious theme to it with the singer wearing white with the hands crossed over the chest, the whole cover matches the title "Grace" which is why I think it is following the religious theme.

Imagery:

There is one main image which is a medium close up shot of the artist dressed in a white outfit, he's positioned looking down with his eyes shut and hands crossed over the chest. It looks extremely religious. I feel the image would grab a potential buyers eye as the white makes the image stand out.

Text:

At the top centre aligned is the artists name and album title; this is aligned well and placed in the right place as its the first place the audience will look.

The wording then is "hear tracks on my album" this makes it feel personal and as if He's personally addressing the audience. Below the image there is a lot of text which is small which I'm not to keen on as it makes it look crowded.

Colours:

The colour scheme seems to be black, white and yellow. The colours combine well and none clash it gives it a POP/soul kind of feel to it. The colour use makes the text and image stand out which is important.

From analysing the two products above I have seen that they tend to follow a similar design as the digipak, Bearing this in mind I have drawn three flat plans each incorporate different factors from my digipak to help them follow the same theme and style.

Flat plan 1:

Theme:

This design will follow the theme of the cover of my digipak; it will include the same image and will include similar colours as the digipak. It will also follow the whole modern half and 60's half image so that it matches the title of "Past + Present". The page will be split into three columns so that information is spread out efficiently so that the audience can take in each aspect of the advert. It will look feminine however it won;t be specifically aimed just at females but instead her target audience which covers a variety of ages and both genders. It will also be catered towards her genre so that it is similar to her current style rather then completely changing it.

Colours:

The colours will follow the same pattern as the digipak; this is because that will be sticking to the similar theme and also the colours chosen all match. the left column will be coloured bright pink which matches the eye makeup in the image.

Text:

I will use the same font and it will be bold and large as it needs to catch the audiences eye from a distance. It will be approximately size 20 as it will make it readable from a distance. I will have the text laid out so that on each line there will be one word and each will be slightly indented more to give the text a diagonal look. I will include the words "Out now" in capitals as it will remind people that it can be bought now, also something I have included on the design is I will include writing saying "Includes #1 single Brown eyes and exclusive video" along the bottom of the advert as it will be advertising my music video and be an added selling point for my digipak.

Imagery:

I will include two images, one in the same column as the text which will be the cover of my digipak so that audiences can tell that its the advert for that cover and also to familiarise them with what the cover looks like. The second image will dominate the other columns across the page; it will be a face divided into two half's similar to the digipak one coloured to represent the modern day Lady Gaga and one styled 60's look and coloured black and white to represent the "Past". The shot will be a close up to capture the emotion on the face and the extreme makeup.

Flat Plan 2:

Theme:

Again It will follow the same theme as my digipak but this time it will be divided into three sections like the other flat plan except one column will be vertical whilst the other two columns will be horizontal to make it more dynamic looking and spaced out. I feel it will suite the genre of POP as it will include bright colours and bold dynamic make up which I think Lady Gaga's audience look for.

Colours:

The two half's bottom column will be black and the top column will be bright pink; both these colours are used on my digipak which I feel will link these two products so that an audience could relate to them both. The two colours both match well with each other and will make the advert stand out but will not be too much of an eyesore.

Text:

I will use language which will sell the product words such as "exclusive", "#1 single" and will include some quotes about what people think. The text on the pink background will be black for the digipak name and the text about the product will be white, the text on the black background will be bright pink; I have chosen these colours as the text on my digipak as they all work well together in making the advert eye catching and readable from a distance.

Imagery:

This time I have chosen to use only modern half of the face as I feel it contrasts the colour scheme well and makes the advert look really modern and also is suited to Lady Gaga as I feel no one else would use imagery like this; ones that are bright and dynamic looking.

Flat plan 3:

Theme:

Unlike the flat plans above this one will not be split into sections but instead be all in one; I feel this will make it look more presetable and professional. It will include a fave which dominates most the pace however some of the face will be cut off to make it look more abstract and creative. It will be aimed at Lady Gaga's target audience and will incoroporate similar themes to that of my Digipak.

Imagery:

This flat plan will use a close up shot of the face so that the makeup is defined and facial feature; it will also make it easier to portray a sad emotion which is what this advert is aiming to do to fit the theme of "lost love".

I have chosen close up shot because I feel that they look better on advertisments as it will make the face recognisable from a distance.

I will also include the image of my digipak to the right of the advert; this will link the two products.

Colour:

I have chosen a black background colour to make the imagery and the text stand out, the image will be bright and I will edit it to mkae it brighter in photoshop; this will make it stand out amongst the text.

The text will be white to stand out on the black background.

Text:

I will use the same font as the digipak as this will help link the two products, I will use selling words like "exclusive" as this will grab the audiences eye. I will also include the title of my video so that it is being advertised.

Overall I have chosen Advert 2 as I like the layout and feel that it is more suited to other adverts then the other two; I asked people during college which they prefered severla said number 1 but the overall majority voted for advert 2 saying the way it was split in three made it stand out and look different to other adverts.

Completed Advert:

Evaluation:

Again I have uploaded the finished product to FaceBook for feedback I have doen this because the comments I get are much more varied then when asking people face to face as they feel more pressured to compliment it with me stood infront of them.

Feedback:

The evaluation was mainly positive comments which is good, I am glad that one person mentioned the layout as I thought dividing it into three may have been a but to organised but it was obivously liked. Each comment thought the advert was linked to the digipak which is what I was hoping for. Overall the comments have made me very positive about my advert however as some mention I could improve the advert by maybe making it slighlty different from my digipak as at the minute they do look an awful lot similar which could get boring.
