Blog 10-Mise en scene

When planning our music video we to into consideration the Mise en scene and made decisions which we feel are realistic to achieve and gain access to. We also made sure that when choosing costumes, locations and props for our video that we considered how it might compare to other Lady Gaga video and whether our idea's were suitable towards the genre and target audience of Lady Gaga.

Location/Setting:

We have decided to chose several locations to make the video interesting and to grab the viewers attention. We also have seen from the majority of Lady Gaga's videos that it is set in more then one location; however "Just Dance" was one location but as that was her first videos we feel fans would be more impressed if it stuck to her current style then reverting back to when she first started. So far we have decided to use: A House; to film the main character looking over old photo's of when she was in a relationship. We want the house to be a normal everyday looking house, so that her audience can relate to the video. The location in the house we will film are: kitchen, bedroom and stairs. Dance Studio; We want to use this to film the dance sequence in our music video; we already have an area in mind our college dance studio. We have chosen this because it is modern looking with mirrors and feel it will have a very abstract affect on our video with the reflections of dancers and will keep in line with lady Gaga's creative style Road/lane; We feel this location would be ideal to film the footsteps of the man waling away for the lyrics "In your brown eyes, you walked away" we would use a shot of the feet gradually walking further away. We could also film the past in this area of her and her partner walking hand in hand. Forrest; To portray our idea of her walking through a door leading into a Forrest; to add an abstract feel to the video and also to keep viewers interested.

Props:

When choosing props we wanted them to be relevant to the song and our story so we thought hard about what we were going to use. Letters Photographs CD player

Costume and Makeup:

When choosing these we considered Lady Gaga's dress style in her other videos' we have understood that we need to follow this style for it to be realistic and so it appeals to her target audience, we are going to use a variety of costume changes as in her videos she usually has several outfits, we have decided: Blond wig; we have decided to use a Lady Gaga style wig so that viewers can distinguish her in the video, it is also iconic for her as she always has that style. Bright makeup; such as a big bold colours used for eye shadow for the present time and bright red lipstick used for filming the past shots.

Ra Ra skirt; used for filming past scenes as it sets the time period well. Dark eye makeup and tears; we want these for the scenes when she is reminiscing over the past as it will convey emotion. Hot pants/ skimpy outfits; these are always in Lady Gaga's videos so we feel we should include probably during maybe dance scenes as it would be suited to Lady Gaga as most her outfits in her dance sequences follow this trend. Big hair; we are considering using like a Marilyn Monroe hair style for when shooting out scenes in the past as this will really set the time period as this looks slightly retro and 60's looking.

Colour:

Our main idea's for the colour scheme of our video is to have two types so viewers can define the past from the present shots of the story to do this we have chosen: Black and white; we have decided to film the past scenes in black and white to set the time period. We believe this will be similar but also different to a normal lady Gaga video; e.g. in her earlier videos such as poker face and just dance she used bright colours however in her more recent videos such as Alejandro she uses black and white during certain parts. We feel black and white will set the scene as it will match our 60's vibe we want to create. Bright colours; for the present shots we have chosen to use brighter colours so viewers can tell past from present. We also decided there needed to be some bright colours in our video as it stays true to Lady Gaga's style and allows us to create more dynamic outfits etc
